Online based B.A.- Course of Study "Social Work" (B.A.)

Target Group: Whom is this study for?

This study program is addressed to people, who - besides family and job - want to extend their qualification on the field of social-pedagogics or social-work and thus acquire the first academic degree  Bachelor of Arts. The BA also opens up access to higher qualification at highschools, respectively for other certified ways of advanced education.

Temporary commitment - up to which extend?

The B.A.-Course of Study is designed according to the so-called Credit Point System: 1 CP is the measure for 30 hours of work. The BA comprises 180 CP = 5.400 hours (= workload) partititioned on 4 years:

  • as "On-Campus-Phases" = beeing present at the YMCA-University Kassel, approx. 4 weeks a year, or
  • as  "Private-study-time" or "Team-work" on the learning platform Moodle (individual time-management). You can expect  a weekly work effort of approx. 2o hours.

The prescribed period of study amounts to 4 years (semester). It is recommended to reduce working time during study.

Practical experience- assessed in hich way?

Internships are included in study. If you are able to reflect your occupational practice in a theory-based and critical manner, together with a subject-qualified tutor, you can declare this occupation as an "accompanied practice"- if it is a study-relevant field of work.

What does the study cost?

The study-fees are calculated according to the "Credit Points" (1 CP = 30 hours) of a module (1 CP = 80 €; up to a total of  180 CP = 14.400 €) inclusively all study materials, examination charges and etcetera. Additionally access to the interactive learning platform "Moodle". Study fees will not increase if the duration of study has to be extended. The study fees will be calculated over a monthly advanced payment of  280 €. In addition expenses for travelling to the"on-campus-phases" units at the YMCA-University Kassel, lodging and boarding at the YMCA seminar center (CVJM-Tagungshaus) on the campus will arise.

Important: Employees often support extra-occupational training by an advanced-training-budget. Moreover these expenses are tax deductible. Besides the chances for career, higher salary and pay scale grouping increase for successfull graduates.

Graduates of the YMCA-College Kassel and the former "School of YMCA-Secretaries" Kassel, obtain 10% discount - within the framework of this study - on every bill invoiced by the YMCA-University Kassel (e.g. tuition fees, lodging, study materials).

How does it work: studying on a learning platform?

Basic foundation for study is your own access to the internet. The appropriate and effective handling of this medium is -as promotion of media competence- part of the study and requires no prior knowledge.

The interactive learning platform allows

  • access to study material (texts, instructions,tasks, etc.)
  • individual learning according to your own self-determined schedule and rhythm
  • contact to professors and lecturers
  • communication amoung the students (Chatroom; Blog etc.)
  • generating teams amoung students

Admission Requirements:

  • Advanced Technical College or Highschool Diploma equal to the German Abitur (Baccalaureate)
    In the legal framework of the german law for education and science of the province "Hessen", people with special vocational qualification, but without above listed diploma, can also receive admission

  • voluntary experience in YMCA or community
  • participation in an info conversation with the coordinator of the program
  • futhermore we expect the readiness for a study which has its fundament in christian faith. It is embedded in a spiritual interaction, especially during the "on-campus-phases"
