Dr. Klaus Schulz becomes first professor of YMCA University

On 11. March Dr. Klaus Schulz obtained the certificate of appointment as professor- from the Hessian Ministry for Science and Arts. He holds the professorship "Religious- and Parish Education,with  focus on "Biblical Theology" and is prorector (vice rector) of the new YMCA University.

The protestant theologian serves the christian association "CVJM" (german department of YMCA) already since 1. March 2003, as lecturer for theological subjects at the CVJM College, which is as yet the only education and training institute of the german association.

In July 2008 the new YMCA University was officially accredited by the Scientific Board. This international university is subsequently the second institute of education of the YMCA Head Office in Germany.

Due to many years of teaching, among other as lecturer at the Mission Seminary of the "Ev. Luth. Missionswerk" in Lower Saxony, Germany (ELM), Hermannsburg, and his practice with students and entrants, Schulz can call on the required teaching expertise for the professorship at the YMCA University. Having shown proof of his administrative skills sufficiently, the board of the YMCA Head Office appointed him as prorector of the new university on 6. February 2009.

Schulz (60) is married to the radiologist Dr. med. Inge Schulz; they live in Göttingen, Northern Germany. He completed an annual extern vicariate abroad in Bogotá (Columbia), was guest lecturer at the "Lutheran Bible Institute" in Seattle (USA) and has good contact to the Springfield College in Massachusetts (USA).

Until the year 2012 a total of 12 professors shall  have taken up teaching. From 2014 on "Master" courses of study will be offered to 320 students. The official foundation ceremony of the YMCA University - International YMCA University of Applied Science - will be celebrated on 27. of March, in the "Ständesaal" in Kassel; and at 1. September the teaching starts with the attendance course of study "Religious- and Parish Education/Social Work integrative" and the distance learning course of study "Social- and "Diakonie"-Management".
